At North American, we protect your belongings as if they were our
own. Our damage record is one of the best in the industry.
However, in the unfortunate event that a mistake happens, rest
assured. We have you covered with a choice of possession
protection plans that are second to none. Your Agent Service
Counselor will work with you to determine your best option.
 | MVP - Maximum Value Protection: When
the full replacement protection of MVP is desired, you should select
the level of protection that covers the total value of your
belongings. At a minimum, the value you declare must be equal
to $5.00 per pound times the total weight of your shipment.
You may use a higher valuation rate per pound. |
| DVP - Depreciated Value
Protection: Moving companies are
required to provide, and charge you for, Depreciated Value
Protection if you don't select another plan. DVP provides
reimbursement at a depreciated value, up to the dollar amount that
you declare to be the value of your possessions. You may
declare a lump sum or a per pound valuation. In either case,
the value you declare must equal no less than $1.25 per pound times
the total weight of your shipment. |
| Basic Liability: There
is no charge for Basic Liability Protection. However, it
provides limited repair or replacement up to a rate of 60¢ per
pound per article. You must request Basic Liability in
writing on the Bill of Lading. |
Notify North American of
damage as soon as possible, by calling 1.800.348.2111. We'll send
you a claim form and return envelope. Once you file a claim, we'll
immediately take steps to take care of it.
Upon receiving your written
claim, our claims representative will contact a repair specialist in
your area to arrange for inspection and/or repairs (there are repair
specialists available in more than 80% of the United States and in all
major metro areas). The repair specialist will fill out a report
and send it to us. If an item of immediate concern, such as a bed
or refrigerator, is damaged beyond use, we'll pay for a quality rental
while it is being repaired or replaced. Never throw away damaged
items or cartons prior to our inspection. It's necessary for us to
inspect them to ensure your claim satisfaction.

You Know?
North American offers protection
plans based on the value you declare for your belongings. If you are
unsure of the total value, we suggest this guideline: $8,000 per room, or
approximately one-half the value of your home, plus items of special value
such as paintings, crystal, china, etc.
